I’ve been doing more woodworking lately, and as my projects have grown in size and complexity, I’ve started to realize that the way my shop and materials are organized might not scale very well long-term. What started as a simple setup for small projects has gradually turned into a space with more tools, more jigs, more wood species, and a lot more offcuts than I expected. Because of that, I’m starting to rethink how everything is stored and arranged so the shop stays efficient and enjoyable to work in. I’m especially interested in hearing how other woodworkers handle organization as their shops evolve. Things like storing lumber and sheet goods, keeping track of useful scraps, organizing jigs and fixtures, or even managing hardware like screws and fasteners. I’d also be curious to know if anyone has developed systems that make it easier to move between different types of projects without constantly rearranging the shop. Any ideas, lessons learned, or shop organization strategies that have worked well would be great to hear about.
