Monkeypod Desk VW

Bottom side has been flattened and sanded to 220 Flipped over and flattened and sanded top to 220. Ordered a track saw. Will square up the back and corner. Had to order in the conversion varnish for my HVLP setup. Should be in 2 weeks or so now. Waiting on customer to decide if he wants the edge squared off or carved into a natural shape. Base is nearly finished. Should get it early next week from the welder. Will layout the base and make sure all is set before the finishing moves too far along. I do the bottom first then do the top last. Will epoxy a crack in desktop. Don’t think it needs a bow tie but am considering it after pouring the black epoxy in. Then will add a 1/2” or so roundover to exposed sides. Then on to finishing. Hopefully by end of week. Here’s pics with just water on the slab before final sanding.

Recently was contacted by a good friend that owns a welding shop. He employs my son. We discussed making wood slab tables and desks. We found a local guy that owns a sawmill. We selected the perfect slab of monkeypod. it is 112" x 28-48" x 2.25". I managed to get the slab home. I have trimmed off the bark and this cambion layer. It is a layer of opaque white wood that is the beginning of new sap wood. the inner and outer bark came off quite easily. However I needed 36grit on a grinder to remove this layer. I am now working with a router sled to make it level. I needed to order a router collet extender off of amazon. I have also ordered a wen track saw with 110" tracks and an adjustable angle finder for the track. It can 90 degree and other angles as necessary.
